Tension gripped Jethuwal village near Kathunangal on the Amritsar-Batala road early Thursday after debris believed to be from a missile was found scattered in agricultural fields and homes. The discovery comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following recent Indian precision strikes on terror camps across the border, including in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

According to villagers, the incident occurred around 1:30 am when a large, 5-foot-long cylindrical object was found lying in the field of two local farmers. Multiple fragments were also discovered in nearby areas. Residents immediately informed the authorities, prompting a swift response from the local police and forensic teams.

“There was no explosion or ground impact at the site. Residents did not report hearing any blast sound in the village,” said Maninder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural), adding that the object appeared to be lying in the field. The Army has been notified, and an investigation is underway to determine the missile's origin.

Simultaneously, several residents in Amritsar city reported hearing three loud explosion-like sounds around the same time, though no damage or injuries were reported. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the reports but said no related incidents had occurred within the city limits.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has re-imposed nighttime blackout protocols and urged the public to remain calm.

Blackout imposed in Gurdaspur from 9 pm to 5 am

Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the Gurdaspur district administration has ordered a daily nighttime blackout from 9 pm to 5 am, effective immediately and until further notice. The directive is part of a series of precautionary measures aimed at strengthening national security.

During the blackout hours, all residential and commercial lights must remain switched off to ensure complete darkness. Exceptions have been granted to Central Jail Gurdaspur and the Civil Hospital, though both institutions have been instructed to seal all windows to ensure that no light goes out during the blackout period.
