The skeletal remains of a man from Telangana, who had been missing for nearly a year, were found near the Chorabari glacier above Kedarnath temple, the police said on Wednesday.
Traders visiting the glacier area spotted the remains and informed the police. A bag found nearby contained a phone and an identity card, which identified the man as Nomula Roshwant, a resident of Rajeshwar Raopet village in Jagtial district, Telangana.
His family had filed a missing person’s report in Telangana last year. They last spoke to him on August 30, when he said he was in Uttarakhand and planned to leave for Delhi. He was officially reported missing on August 31.
The police, along with district administration team posted in Kedarnath and members of the Yatra Management Force (YMF), retrieved the remains and brought them to Kedarnath. The body was later sent to Rudraprayag District Hospital. It will be handed over to his family and the Telangana police.
Yatra inspector Rajiv Chauhan said once the ID was recovered, the family and Telangana Police were contacted, and it was confirmed that Roshwant had been missing since last year.
