Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting of the BJP’s state unit in Chennai, focusing on election preparedness and campaign strategy. The meeting was attended by key state leaders, election in-charges, and central observers.

According to party sources, detailed discussions were held on campaign planning, organisational coordination, and outreach strategies in the poll-bound state.

Sources indicated that deliberations also centred around an upcoming public campaign meeting scheduled to be held in Kanyakumari on April 15, which is expected to be a major political event for the party.

Among those present at the meeting were Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, who is also the BJP’s election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, and L. Murugan. Other prominent attendees included BJP state President Nainar Nagendran, former governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, former state BJP president K. Annamalai, BJP Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan, and central observers Arvind Menon and Sudhakar Reddy, among others.

Party sources also indicated that the BJP leadership is considering assigning a key national-level responsibility to senior leader Annamalai, who is not contesting in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Modi arrived in Tamil Nadu on Friday as part of a two-day visit to campaign for the elections. He first travelled to Puducherry, where he held a roadshow and addressed a public meeting organised by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), campaigning for alliance candidates. He later returned to Chennai and stayed overnight in Guindy, where the strategy meeting took place. After nearly 90 minutes of deliberations, the Prime Minister departed for Kerala to participate in another NDA campaign event.

The visit underscores the BJP’s intensified efforts to strengthen its electoral prospects in Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
