A chilling video has surfaced capturing the terrifying moment when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a kabaddi tournament in Mohali's Sector 82, critically injuring kabaddi player and promoter Rana Balachauria, whose real name was Kanwar Digvijay Singh. The 30-year-old victim, who had organised the event and was set to participate in it, later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred during an ongoing match at the venue, as reported. The footage, widely circulated on social media, including a 49-second clip shared by Congress leader and former hockey legend Pargat Singh on the platform X, shows gunshots ringing out amid the game, with spectators visibly panicking and scrambling for safety.

The same video was also posted by official accounts of various political parties and leaders. In his accompanying post, Pargat Singh stated, “Punjab’s law and order has hit a new low,” adding that hearing gunshots at a public event indicated the state was losing control.

Kanwar Digvijay Singh, alias Rana Balachauria, was immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital in Mohali, arriving at 6:05 pm, where he was declared brought dead on arrival. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his head and face.

According to eyewitness accounts provided to police, a group of men arrived at the site in a Mahindra Bolero vehicle, targeted the teams on the field by opening fire, and then fled the scene. In response, the BJP's Chandigarh unit shared the identical video on their X handle, highlighting what they described as a complete collapse of law and order in the state.

The BJP further pointed to an emerging pattern, referencing previous murders of kabaddi players. They specifically mentioned the cases of Sandeep Nangal Ambian and Tejpal Singh, asserting that sportspersons were increasingly becoming soft targets.

“Under Bhagwant Mann’s incompetent leadership and Arvind Kejriwal’s remote-control governance from Delhi, Punjab’s law & order has completely collapsed,” their post stated, reiterating criticism directed at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and the party's Delhi-based leadership. Police have initiated search operations to apprehend the assailants and have registered a case in connection with the incident.
