The Mughal Road, linking Shopian with Rajouri-Poonch districts, was temporarily closed on Saturday as a precaution following fresh snowfall, an official confirmed.
“Traffic movement has been stopped on the Mughal Road due to fresh snowfall. People are advised to avoid travelling on the Mughal Road until the road becomes passable,” he added.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed persistent rainfall since Friday night, affecting most weather stations across the region.
Heavy rainfall and hailstorms hit Ramban district on Saturday morning, disrupting daily life. Meanwhile, Srinagar experienced moderate to heavy rain, impacting routine activities.
The precipitation has brought much-needed relief from the sweltering heatwave that had gripped the region last week. Tourists were seen enjoying the rainfall near the iconic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) in Lal Chowk.

A female tourist from West Bengal, visiting the region for the first time, said, “The refreshing rainy weather feels wonderful,” adding that she arrived on Thursday.
Another group of visitors enjoying their morning coffee remarked, “The heatwave in UP, Delhi, is intense and blistering. Coming here was the right decision, as the weather here is pleasant.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over Kashmir Division on Friday, warning of isolated heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.
Srinagar is expected to experience cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 24°C to a minimum of 11°C.
In Jammu Division, fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are anticipated, accompanied by isolated heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds up to 50–60 kmph.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds in isolated parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
