Mumbai police remained on high alert on Sunday following a fresh bomb threat at the city’s Nair Hospital. Authorities confirmed that a call warning of a potential explosion at the hospital was received, prompting an immediate security response and campus-wide inspection.
According to officials, an email claiming a bomb threat was sent to the Dean’s official address late on Saturday night, around 11 pm. The police were alerted to the concerning message right away, and they worked with the hospital's management to secure the area.
Police teams responded by thoroughly searching the hospital with the help of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). Following hours of meticulous examination, the threat was formally deemed to be a hoax since no suspicious items were discovered.
This scare comes just days after Mumbai faced a major bomb threat alert involving claims of 34 “human bombs.” On Friday, the city’s traffic police helpline received a call stating that 34 vehicles carrying 400 kg of RDX explosives had been planted across Mumbai and could trigger blasts capable of “shaking the entire city.” The call was traced to an organisation calling itself “Lashkar-e-Jihadi.”

Following the alarming threat, security was heightened across Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, coinciding with the end of the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Authorities deployed over 21,000 police personnel to manage large crowds during the visarjan processions and maintain vigilance across the city. Despite extensive checks, no explosives or suspicious material were recovered.

In a separate development, police arrested a 51-year-old astrologer from Noida for sending a fake threat to Mumbai authorities, reportedly in an attempt to frame a friend.
The Nair Hospital alert adds to a series of fake bomb threats in Mumbai over recent months. On Monday, a 43-year-old man from Thane was arrested for allegedly making a hoax bomb threat about Kalwa railway station. In August, the ISKCON temple in Girgaon received a threat email, which the BDDS later confirmed to be a hoax after a thorough inspection.
Earlier in July, a threat call warned of a possible attack at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which also turned out to be false. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
