Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of all sections of society.
Speaking at the 'Bhim Samvad', an event organised by the Janata Dal (United) on the eve of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Kumar urged people from all communities to uphold peace, harmony, and unity in society.
Paying heartfelt tribute to Dr Ambedkar, the JD(U) president reflected on his personal connection with the leader’s legacy. He recalled visiting Babasaheb’s house and meeting his family members during his tenure as a Union Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government.

Kumar said, “Our government is committed to the welfare of Dalits, Mahadalits, backward and extremely backward classes, the Muslim community, and upper castes alike. Babasaheb will continue to inspire us in our efforts towards an inclusive and just society.”
The event was attended by several prominent JD(U) leaders, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan, the party’s national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, and several ministers from the state cabinet. The function was held at the Bapu Sabhagar auditorium in Patna.
Simultaneously, just a short distance away at the historic Gandhi Maidan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—an ally of JD(U)—launched a ‘Jai Bhim’ padyatra to mark the same occasion.

The march saw the participation of key leaders such as Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with several other senior party members.
Mandaviya, in a post on X, shared that over six thousand youth associated with the MY Bharat initiative took part in the padyatra. He emphasised Ambedkar’s pivotal role in shaping India’s Constitution and democratic foundation.
“Babasaheb was the architect of the Constitution. Based on his thoughts, vision, and principles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. The participation of youth is crucial in this journey. Through this padyatra, thousands of young people connected with Babasaheb’s ideas,” Mandaviya stated.
The series of events held in Patna underscored a united tribute across party lines to Dr Ambedkar’s enduring legacy and vision for a socially just and harmonious India.
