Naidu lays foundation for $15 bn Google AI cloud hub

The project, estimated at $15 billion, will feature a hyperscale AI-enabled cloud data centre along with a supporting digital ecosystem.

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and others during the foundation-stone laying ceremony of the Google Cloud India AI Hub, in Visakhapatnam.


Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) cloud hub being developed by Google in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step in the state’s ambition to become a global digital infrastructure destination. The project, estimated at $15 billion, will feature a hyperscale AI-enabled cloud data centre along with a supporting digital ecosystem. It is being developed in partnership with AdaniConneX, backed by the Adani Group, and Nxtra Data, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel.
 
The foundation ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Communications and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with senior industry leaders and government officials. Among the attendees were Andhra Pradesh IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh, US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura E Williams, Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman Rakesh Mittal, Jeet Adani, and Google India Vice-President Preeti Lobana. Union Ministers K Rammohan Naidu and Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, along with local representatives, including MP Mathukumilli Sribharat, were also present.
 
What’s this AI-cloud hub?
The AI cloud hub will include a 1-gigawatt hyperscale data centre to be set up in Tarluvada in Visakhapatnam district. The state government has allocated around 600 acres of land across Tarluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram to support the project’s development.
 
Before the ceremony, the Chief Minister visited the Google Experience Zone, where the company showcased its latest innovations in cloud computing and AI technologies.
 
Officials said the presence of hyperscale data centres would position Visakhapatnam as a key hub in India’s growing AI and cloud computing landscape.
 
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of strengthening digital infrastructure, stating that such projects would enhance India’s capabilities in artificial intelligence and data processing, contributing to the India’s future economic growth.
