Thousands of Congress leaders and workers, led by former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress president Chaudhary Udaibhan, staged a protest in Chandigarh on Thursday against the chargesheet filed against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
Top Congress leaders, including party co-incharge Jitendra Baghel, MPs Deepender Singh Hooda, Varun Mullana, Jai Prakash, Satpal Brahmachari, and all working presidents, Jitendra Bhardwaj, Suresh Gupta, Ramkishan Gujjar, and former MLAs took to the streets. They raised slogans against the BJP government, accusing it of misusing investigative agencies for political vendetta.

The march, aimed at gheraoing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office, was blocked by the Chandigarh Police using barricades. Many leaders were arrested on the way by the police and detained at the police station for several hours before being released.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda stated that independent agencies and judiciary were the basis of democracy. “If agencies are used with political malice, then it will prove to be fatal for democracy. The action being taken against the Congress leadership is very condemnable and unfortunate. The National Herald case has been converted into a money laundering case and a chargesheet has been presented after 10 years. Whereas this is a No profit, No loss trust. This is a political vendetta against our top leaders, against which the Congress party is protesting all over the country,” he further added.
“We will fight this battle on the streets, in the court and in the Parliament,” he added.
Haryana Congress president Choudhary Udaibhan said BJP was scared of the increasing popularity of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. “This time, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress kept the BJP away from the majority figure and will oust it from power in the coming times. This is the reason why BJP wants to eliminate this strongest challenge standing in front of it. But the history of Congress and Gandhi family is full of struggle. The party which did not bow down to the British will not bow down to the BJP either. Ultimately truth will prevail and the power of truth is with the Congress,” he said.
Thousands of activists participated in the protest and were courted arrest.
