Taking swift action against the top officers of Himachal Pradesh government for their conflicting stand in the court in Chief Engineer Vimal Negi's death case, the Himachal Pradesh government has sent Director General of Police, Dr Atul Verma, Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Sanjeev Gandhi ( who was heading the Special Investigation Team) and Additional Chief Secretary, Onkar Sharma, who was asked to inquire into the matter of Vimal Negi's death, on leave reportedly for conflicting stands in the court.
In a ticklish move, the DGP, who is retiring on 31 May, has been asked to proceed on earned leave, while SP on medical leave. Both have been asked to explain their position. The action came two days after the Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered a CBI probe into the mysterious death case.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had mentioned in a press conference after that the state government will fully co-operate with the CBI on the matter as it also wanted justice in the case. Talking to media, the CM had said that the ACS and the DGP had submitted their status reports in the High Court, without vetting by the Advocate General. He has mentioned that indiscipline would not be tolerated, although he had preferred to keep mum on Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Sanjeev Gandhi's conduct wherein he had held a press conference against DGP and other officers.

The government has meanwhile given additional charge of DGP's post to Ashok Tiwari, Director General, Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau, and additional charge of SP Shimla's post to Gaurav Singh, SP, Solan during their leave period..
A government notification last evening said that ACS, Kamlesh Pant would hold additional charge of Home, Vigilance, Revenue, and Chairman of Pollution Control Board, while Secretary Kadam Sandeep Vasant would hold additional charge of Jal Shakti Vibhag and Secretary Rakhil Kahlon would hold additional charge of Tribal Development department during the leave period of ACS Onkar Sharma.
The CBI on the other hand constituted a three member Special Investigation Team for Vimal Negi death case on court directions and registered an FIR into the case.
