The North East Students' Organisation on Monday called for urgent and decisive steps to end the ongoing violence in Manipur, stressing the need to fix accountability and restore peace in the conflict-hit state.
In a statement, the student body, representing organisations across the Northeast, expressed “deep concern over the recurring cycle of violence and bloodshed”, noting that innocent lives continue to be lost while the fabric of peaceful coexistence is steadily eroding.
“These repeated acts of violence against unarmed civilians represent a grave humanitarian concern that strikes at the core of human dignity, security and the fundamental right to live in peace,” NESO chairman SB Jyrwa said.
The organisation said the prolonged unrest has inflicted “immeasurable suffering” on families and communities, leaving behind grief, fear and uncertainty across large parts of the state. It extended condolences to bereaved families and expressed solidarity with all those affected by the ongoing conflict.

“The pain endured by the people is a collective pain shared by the entire North East,” Jyrwa said.
At the same time, NESO questioned what it described as the inability of both state and central authorities to effectively intervene and bring the situation under control. “The continued failure to restore peace and normalcy reflects a deeply concerning lapse in governance and responsibility,” he said.
Calling for “immediate, fair and transparent intervention”, the organisation urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent further escalation and ensure justice for victims. It emphasised that those responsible for the violence must be identified, held accountable and booked in accordance with the law.
Appealing for restraint, NESO urged all communities and stakeholders to uphold the values of humanity and pursue dialogue. “Violence can never be a solution; only dialogue and mutual respect aimed at addressing underlying issues can pave the way for lasting peace,” Jyrwa added.
Recalling its past peace initiatives, NESO reiterated its commitment to promoting harmony and stability in the region. It stressed that restoring normalcy in Manipur is not only a regional necessity but also a moral imperative requiring urgent, sincere and accountable action from all stakeholders.
