The Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Haryana Government must ensure complete implementation of the three new criminal news- Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam by the end of March 2025.

These laws, which replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act of 1872, came into effect on July 1, 2023.

In a review meeting convened by Shah, he called the new laws “protectors of civil rights” and foundational to the “ease of justice.”

He underlined the importance of using technology to streamline the justice system.

He issued directives related to Zero FIRs and asked the state to deploy more than one forensic van in each district and assign a DSP-rank officer to oversee all the changes in the state.

“The DGP must ensure that all police personnel are sensitised to prioritise timely justice,” Shah stressed.

He asked SPs to investigate cases within prescribed timelines and suggested that the CM Saini conduct progress reviews every 15 days, while the Chief Secretary and DGP hold weekly reviews with relevant officials.

He also emphasised the importance of the laws in modernising the criminal justice system and ensuring swift and efficient legal processes.

The meeting was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Secretary and the DGP.
