A newly married couple from Jharkhand, Atul Oraon and Dr Kanchan Bara, have found themselves stranded in Dubai following sudden flight cancellations triggered by rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The couple has appealed to authorities for assistance in returning home safely.
Atul Oraon, an employee of the Steel Authority of India Limited, and his wife were married in Ranchi on February 22 and left for Dubai on February 27 for their honeymoon. They were scheduled to fly back on March 4.
However, escalating hostilities involving the United States, Israel, and Iran led to disruptions in air travel, with several flights suspended at Dubai International Airport.
The sudden cancellations have left thousands of passengers stranded, with restrictions also reported in hotels and public areas. Sharing his experience on social media, Atul said what was meant to be a joyful celebration quickly turned into a period of stress and uncertainty.
He mentioned that their Indigo flight (6C1462) from Dubai was cancelled without any clarity on rescheduling or rebooking, causing panic among travellers.

While local authorities reportedly announced that stranded passengers would be provided accommodation and meals, Atul claimed that their hotel had not extended such support.
Dr Kanchan Bara described the prevailing atmosphere as tense and unusually quiet. “We are safe for now, but the anxiety is growing with each passing moment,” she said, expressing their strong desire to reunite with their families at the earliest.
The couple has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to facilitate their evacuation, along with others stranded in the region.
Back in Ranchi, both families are reportedly anxious and closely tracking developments. They have appealed to the Jharkhand government to coordinate with the Centre and the Indian Embassy in the UAE on humanitarian grounds to ensure the safe return of residents stuck in West Asian countries.
Family members said the crisis extends beyond one couple, affecting many Indian travellers caught in the unfolding international situation.
