The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday launched coordinated searches at 32 locations across Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a 2022 case involving a Pakistan-backed conspiracy to spread terror in the region.

According to official sources, the raids—conducted in multiple districts since early morning—targeted Overground Workers (OGWs) associated with various banned terrorist outfits. The case, registered as RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU, pertains to efforts by proscribed groups to radicalise youth, mobilise local support, and disrupt peace and communal harmony in the Union Territory.

These searches were aimed at dismantling the terror network in Jammu Province and scuttling the plans of the banned terrorist organisations to disturb the peace and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir by radicalising local youth and mobilising overground workers.

The ongoing crackdown is part of a broader investigation into the activities of terrorist groups and their affiliates, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, and Al-Qaeda, as well as newly floated outfits like The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Kashmir Tigers, Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), and PAAF.

These raids follow similar operations conducted by the NIA on May 11 last year, when searches at six locations in Jammu province led to the seizure of incriminating materials, including digital devices and documents linked to hybrid terrorists and sympathisers of these organisations.

The NIA had registered the suo moto case on June 21, 2022, as part of its efforts to dismantle the network of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist groups and prevent planned attacks involving IEDs, sticky bombs, and small arms in the region.
