The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at several locations in Punjab associated with aides of Canada-based terrorist Goldy Brar as part of its investigation into an "extortion and firing case."

In an official statement, the anti-terror agency sought public assistance for information regarding Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar and his associates.

Nine locations linked to Brar and his aides were searched by NIA teams in connection with an extortion and firing case registered in Chandigarh.

These raids follow the NIA's filing of a charge sheet against Brar and 11 others for their alleged involvement in the killing of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Jaipur last year.

The NIA has provided telephone numbers for people to share information about the terrorist and his associates or details of any threat calls they might have received from the gang.

Information can be shared on landline number 0172-2682901 or mobile number 7743002947 (for Telegram/WhatsApp). The NIA assured informants of keeping their identities confidential.

Thursday's crackdown was part of NIA's investigations into an extortion and firing case registered by local police on January 20 this year, taken over by the NIA on March 18.

Searches were conducted across Mohali, Patiala, Hoshiarpur, and Fatehgarh Sahib districts, yielding incriminating material including digital devices, the probe agency stated.

Investigations revealed that Brar and an associate, Goldy of Rajpura, Punjab, conspired to extort money from businessmen and were involved in smuggling and sale of narcotics, arms, and ammunition.

Brar and his associates, based abroad, were recruiting vulnerable youth into their gangs, using them for extortion, firing incidents, and narcotics trade, according to NIA investigations.

Brar, a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, known as Sidhu Moosewala, on May 29, 2022.
