Nine killed in van–truck collision in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri

The accident occurred near Unch village along the Sisaiya–Lakhimpur national highway. According to sources, the Tata Magic van was carrying more than 12 passengers, including four women, when the collision took place.

At least nine people were killed and four others sustained critical injuries after a speeding van collided head-on with a truck in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning, police officials said.

 

The accident occurred near Unch village along the Sisaiya–Lakhimpur national highway. According to sources, the Tata Magic van was carrying more than 12 passengers, including four women, when the collision took place.

 

Soon after the incident, local villagers rushed to the spot and alerted authorities. Police teams reached the scene and launched rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased were taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination, while the injured were admitted to a nearby Community Health Center, where they are undergoing treatment. Officials stated that the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

 

While no official statement has been issued regarding the exact toll, local residents reported that at least nine people lost their lives in the accident.

 

“The van was en route to Sisaiya from Lakhimpur when the accident took place between Unchgaon and Bharehta villages. The injured were rushed to the district hospital,” said Shamsher Bahadur Singh, Circle Officer of Dhaurahra.

 

Expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

 

In a separate incident in Bahraich, four people were killed and two others injured after a car collided with a combine harvester late on Sunday night. According to officials, the car, travelling from Nepal towards Bahraich, crashed into a wheat-harvesting machine near Digha More in Brahmnipura.

 

Superintendent of Police (Rural) DP said that the bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem, and the families of the deceased have been informed. “Further legal proceedings are underway,” he said.
