Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday ordered an investigation into the bridge collapse in Jammu city that claimed the lives of three workers.
The Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the tragic deaths and conveyed his condolences to the grieving families, the Chief Minister’s Office said. He ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident to determine the cause and fix responsibility, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The incident took place while workers were carrying out repair work on a retaining wall near the bridge. The spokesperson said the Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed grief over the death of three workers in a bridge collapse on the outskirts of Jammu city.
Officials said three bodies were recovered and two injured persons were rescued from the debris after a nearly 12-hour-long search operation. A portion of an under-repair bridge collapsed in the Bantalab area late Friday night.
“Extremely anguished by the loss of lives due to bridge collapse in Bantalab, Jammu. I offer my deepest condolences to bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Lt Governor’s Office said in a post on X. The LG Sinha also directed the district administration to ensure all necessary support is provided to the affected families.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary reached the site around midnight and ordered the suspension of two engineers. He also directed a probe into the alleged dereliction of duty.
