Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said conflict or war is harmful regardless of where it occurs, while questioning the justification behind Israel’s strike on Iran.
The NC leader also said that UT must have the right to use the water resources and noted that there is no plan to divert additional water to other states.
Abdullah said this during his media interaction after he inaugurated an outreach office, Raabita, in Jammu, to strengthen his government's grievance redressal system.
While responding to a query on the Iran-Israel war, Abdullah stated, “This is not in favour of anyone. War anywhere is a bad thing. Iran has done nothing to force Israel to attack.”
While taking a dig at Tel Aviv, he said, “Just over two months ago, the Israeli intelligence chief said Iran is nowhere close to making a nuclear weapon. But despite that, they launched an attack on Iran.”
He said, “We are evacuating all of the Indian citizens from Iran,” adding “90 students from Jammu and Kashmir have already arrived back home, and another 500 are likely to come back tomorrow.”
When asked about students complaining about the buses being sent to bring back the students, he responded by saying, “As soon as we were informed, we arranged proper vehicles, and they are now reaching their homes. The officials responsible for this have been informed to remain careful in the future,” he asserted.
On the issue of the reservation, the CM said in response to a query raised by the PDP chief and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, that “she has no right to speak on the issue; one must carefully analyse her past tweets on the matter.”
“She is showing fake sympathy for the political motives,” he said.
He said the Law Department is examining the report on the issue of reservation. Once the report comes back, the Cabinet will hold discussions on it.
