Omar visits flood affected areas, briefs PM Modi about situation

With  flood situation grim for the last two days, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today  visited the flood-affected areas of Jammu to assess the situation on the ground. He assured of taking all necessary measures to safeguard people in vulnerable areas. He spoke o Prime Minister Narender Modi and briefed him about extent of damage and destruction caused by floods across Jammu division.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah taking review of damage caused by flash floods in Jammu


With  flood situation grim for the last two days, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today  visited the flood-affected areas of Jammu to assess the situation on the ground. He assured of taking all necessary measures to safeguard people in vulnerable areas. He spoke o Prime Minister Narender Modi and briefed him about extent of damage and destruction caused by floods across Jammu division.  

 

Apart from worst hit areas of the city, he also visited the 4th Tawi Bridge at Bagwati Nagar, Jammu, to take stock of the extensive damage caused to it.Omar had  briefed Home Minister Amit Shah about the serious situation in Jammu last night . 


CM Abdullah while speaking to reporters said that "I have spoken to the Prime Minister just a while ago. I briefed him about the situation. I thank him for the deployment of NDRF teams. He has assured me that all support will be given by the central government to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Abdullah said while speaking to media .

 

Abdullah, who made  visit to the flood-affected areas of Jammu, said on X that he briefed the Prime Minister about the situation in the worst-hit areas as he toured parts of Jammu, along the banks of the Tawi, that saw extensive damage yesterday. “I am grateful for his assurance of continued assistance to the people of J&K,” he said.

 

He said the rains have stopped, water is receding in the river and relief operations have picked up speed. Referring to the situation in other districts following heavy rains and flash floods. He added that we will have to take measures, particularly for those living in flood-prone areas. They will have to be settled somewhere else. Their houses get repeatedly damaged whenever floods come.The electric supply that was snapped yesterday at noon was being restored in parts today.

 
Meanwhile, train services were restored from Jammu today after a day-long suspension, with six trains scheduled to leave for their destinations, officials said.Northern Railway on Tuesday night announced cancellation of 22 incoming and outgoing trains from Jammu and Katra railway stations, while 27 trains were short-terminated at various stations in the division due to heavy rain that lashed the region and damaged the infrastructure.
