One special operations group (SOG) Jawan of the Jammu and Kashmir police has been killed, and two others injured during an ongoing encounter between terrorists and security forces in Udhampur district, which began late on Monday evening.
Police officials said that during the gunfight, two additional SOG jawans were injured, while the terrorists are also believed to have suffered injuries.
During the initial exchange of fire, one SOG was injured and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The encounter broke out after security forces and SOG teams launched a joint cordon and search operation based on credible information about the presence of some terrorists in the area. Upon closing in on the suspected hiding spot, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
According to the latest inputs from the sources, the firing has now stopped; however, the entire area has been cordoned off. All entry and exit points have been sealed to ensure that the holed-up terrorists are killed.
Meanwhile, further reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and a search operation is going on to track the terrorists hiding in the area. This is a developing story; more details shall follow as they emerge.
