BJP MP Anurag Thakur has accused the Opposition of avoiding debates in Parliament, asserting that the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) has always been open to discussing public and national issues over the past 11 years. He said the NDA has discussed every issue the Opposition wanted to discuss, but the Opposition shies away from debates.

“In the past 11 years, the BJP and NDA have discussed almost every issue that the Opposition and the ruling side wanted to discuss in the House. The Opposition looks for excuses to avoid discussion... I would say that we are ready to discuss all issues related to the public and the country... The Opposition often shies away from debate," he said on Sunday.

While addressing mediapersons in Punjab’s Bathinda on Sunday, he was asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi not attending the all-party meeting, which was held in Delhi on Sunday. To which, Thakur clarified that if questions about him are raised in Parliament, the PM always attends the proceeding.

Anurag stated that the monsoon session of the Parliament will run from July 21 to August 21, and highlighted that earlier sessions usually ended by August 15; but the current session has been extended to allow more debates and discussions.

“The monsoon session of Parliament will run from July 21 to August 21. Earlier, most sessions used to end by August 15, but we have set the date of August 21 so that more discussions can take place, bills can be passed, and issues related to the public and national interest can be raised. Whenever any question related to PM Modi arises in Parliament, he is present in the House... If the Prime Minister has to attend any important meeting, it is in the interest of the nation,” he said.

Modi is expected to brief the media on Monday, just before the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament begins.

This session is likely to witness heated debates. The Opposition plans to raise the recent Pahalgam terror attack, seeking accountability from the government, and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The government will focus on discussing key bills related to GST, mines, sports and other areas.

To ensure smooth functioning of Parliament, an all-party meeting was held, where leaders from various parties in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were present. Union Ministers, including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Ministers and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha JP Nadda, Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, and L Murugan also attended the meeting.
