Tripura is set to host its fourth National Lok Adalat of the year on Saturday, December 14, with a staggering 18,054 cases lined up for disposal.
The event, coordinated by the Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), will be held at the Tripura High Court as well as across all district and sub-divisional court premises in the state.
Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury, Member-Secretary of the TSLSA, confirmed that the Lok Adalat would operate even on the public holiday.
She stated, “A total of 18,054 cases have been earmarked for disposal, and 45 benches have been established to handle them.”
These cases span various categories, including motor accident compensation (332 cases), bank loan repayment (3,557 cases), compensable criminal disputes (13,130 cases), marital disputes (127 cases), cheque bounce cases (186), and civil matters (13 cases).
She further noted that 25 cases would be taken up at a dedicated bench at the Tripura High Court, while the Agartala court premises will host the largest number of benches — 10 in total.
Notices were issued to all parties involved, allowing them the opportunity for pre-conciliation or settlement, which has been ongoing since August 9. A team of para-legal volunteers will also assist parties in navigating the settlement process during the Lok Adalat.
