More than 50,000 MBBS and BDS aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir are expected to appear for the NEET-UG 2026 examination today, making it one of the largest academic events in the Union Territory.
Extensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the exam across all designated centres.
While official figures are yet to be released, trends from previous years suggest the number of candidates will be between 48,000 and 52,000.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Medical Education, there are 1,676 medical seats available in J&K this year.
NEET-UG is also mandatory for admission to BDS, BVSc, AYUSH courses, and other professional programmes.
The examination is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) at centres located in government and some private institutions.
Most students will appear in Srinagar and Jammu, while additional centres have been set up in districts including Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Samba, Udhampur, and Kathua.
At the national level, over 22.7 lakh candidates have registered for NEET-UG 2026.
The exam serves as the single entrance test for undergraduate medical and related courses, including MBBS, BDS, BVSc, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, and BHMS.
