A Pakistani intruder was arrested after crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials concerned, Mohammad Yasir Faiz, a resident of Tetrinote village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), was taken into custody by the police from Salotri border village around 11:30 pm on Saturday.
Faiz appeared to be mentally challenged and was subsequently shifted to the local police station for further questioning, officials said.
Earlier on Saturday, the army exchanged fire with militants in the Batod area, situated in the upper reaches of Kathua district, during the early hours of the morning.
Security forces launched a massive search operation to trace the militants, who fled the scene following the brief exchange.
Troops stationed at a temporary army camp in Batod Panchayat detected the movement of suspected militants around 1:20 am and opened fire, the officials added. The militants returned fire, leading to an intermittent exchange that lasted nearly half an hour.
Despite the confrontation, no casualties were reported on either side. The militants, believed to number three, fled into a nearby forest.
Meanwhile, the army has launched a cordon-and-search operation to track down the militants.
