Congress MLA from Jalandhar Cantt assembly constituency and former Indian hockey team player Pargat Singh has stepped down from the post of vice-president of the state unit of Congress. This comes after the Congress's defeat in the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll. Along with him, former Congress MLA
Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon alias Kikki Dhillon also resigned from the post of vice-resident. This development signals rising dissatisfaction within the state unit.
According to reports, at present, Kikki Dhillon is in Australia and Pargat Singh is in Jalandhar. Both the leaders sent their resignation letters to Congress's All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and Punjab in-charge general secretary Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday night.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier, Bharat Bhushan Ashu had also resigned from the post of working president immediately after losing the Ludhiana West by-elections. After which Ashu had commented on Simarjit Singh Bains and Raja Warring. He also said “I take responsibility for the defeat in the Ludhiana elections.”
