Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur has said that the state government has regularised 778 part-time water carriers working in the Education Department.

These workers, who had completed 11 years of combined service as part-time water carrier and daily wagers as of March 31, 2025, have been regularised against vacant Class-IV posts.

He stated that the government has fulfilled a long-pending demand of these employees.

Thakur emphasised that the present state government is committed to addressing the genuine concerns of employees and takes steps from time to time to ensure their welfare.

He added that the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has taken several revolutionary steps in the education sector that have led to significant improvements in education standards. As part of its initiatives, the government has sanctioned 15,000 teaching posts, including 3,900 in the primary education department. An additional 3,100 posts are expected to be filled shortly through the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog. Furthermore, 6,200 nursery teachers are being appointed to strengthen pre-primary education.

Thakur pointed out that during the previous BJP-led government, recruitment in the education sector had stalled. However, the present government is actively working to strengthen the education sector by filling vacant posts. He mentioned that the services of over 200 acting principals working in the educational institutions across the state have been regularised and 483 assistant professors have been recruited. Over the past two and a half years, 700 school lecturers have been appointed, compared to just 511 during the previous BJP government’s entire five-year tenure.

The Education Minister said that the reforms undertaken by the state government were yielding positive results and ranking in providing quality education has been improved. According to the Annual Status of Education Report released in January, 2025, the reading skills of government schools' students in Himachal Pradesh were among the best in the country.

On most parameters of this survey, Himachal Pradesh has been rated as the top performing state in school education nationwide, he added
