The People's Democratic Party (PDP) staged a protest in Srinagar on Friday against the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act, denouncing it as an unacceptable intrusion into the religious affairs of Muslims.
PDP leader Mohammad Iqbal Trumboo stated that the party is firmly opposing the Act and is determined to escalate the protest to the streets to ensure that both the Supreme Court and the Central government are made aware of the Muslim community’s rejection of the legislation.
Echoing similar sentiments, PDP leader Abdul Qayoom criticised the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament, claiming it was done without any proper discussion or consultation. He argued that the Act was unnecessary and accused the authorities of seizing land, mosques, and graveyards belonging to the Muslim community.
Qayoom asserted that Kashmiris are united in solidarity with Muslims across the country in opposing the law. Earlier, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also strongly condemned the Waqf Amendment Act, targeting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the BJP, describing the move as part of a broader attack on Muslims by the ruling party.
