Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified its efforts to call for a unified ban on liquor in UT.
The party has reached out to major parties, including the National Conference, Congress, and BJP, seeking their support on crucial issues like banning alcohol, resolving property rights for homeowners on public land, and addressing the concerns of daily wagers.
In a post on X, PDP wrote, "at a time of unprecedented challenges, JKPDP President and former CM Mehbooba Mufti writes to CM @OmarAbdullah Sahab, urging a united front on key issues affecting J&K. PDP introduces crucial bills on land rights, worker regularisation & alcohol prohibition. Politics aside, the people’s welfare must come first.”

PDP also wrote in a post, “JKPDP President and Former CM Mehbooba Mufti reach out to CPI (M) leader @tarigami MY Tarigami Sahab seeking support for PDP’s key legislative proposals on property rights, worker regularisation & alcohol prohibition. A call for unity on people’s issues beyond party lines.”

Earlier, PDP MLA from Pulwama Waheed Parra is set to introduce a bill legalising the “houses built on the state land and advocate for the extension of ownership to those living on the “Kacharai land” for more than 20 years.”
Additionally, there's another bill set to be introduced in the upcoming assembly seeking a ban on alcohol consumption in J&K.
The advocates of the bill include legislators from the ruling national conference who are seeking Jammu and Kashmir to be declared as “Alcohol Free State”.
Meanwhile, the calls to ban alcohol have gained widespread public support from all sections of the society in Kashmir who are also going to have a close watch over the bill once it’s introduced in the assembly.
