Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s helicopter landed at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on schedule on Saturday morning and departed for Taherpur in Nadia district.
However, due to low visibility caused by dense fog, the chopper was unable to land at Taherpur and forced to return to Dum Dum.
Sources said that if weather conditions improve, the Prime Minister may attempt to reach Taherpur again by helicopter. There is also a possibility that he travels to the meeting venue by road.
Meanwhile, tensions began sprouting from early Saturday morning around the Prime Minister’s proposed meeting in Taherpur. Chaos reportedly erupted even before he reached the venue, with the BJP accusing the police of stopping party leaders and workers headed to attend the rally.
According to BJP leaders, when party workers from the Berhampur organisational district set out for Taherpur, their vehicles were allegedly stopped on National Highway 12 between the Rejinagar and Beldanga police station areas in Murshidabad district. The party claimed that a police van was stationed on the highway, effectively blocking traffic.

Berhampur organisational district BJP president, Malay Mahajan, also alleged that the police deliberately disrupted traffic on the main Berhampur–Kolkata road, causing party workers to get stuck. He claimed the move was intended to prevent supporters from reaching the Prime Minister’s meeting.
The developments have intensified political tension surrounding the programme, with the BJP alleging administrative bias. However, there has been no official response from the police regarding these allegations so far.
Modi arrived at Kolkata airport at 10.33 am and was received by state minister, Chandrima Bhattacharya, and Chief Secretary, Manoj Pant, on behalf of the West Bengal government. He then left for Taherpur.
