Police lathi-charge to disperse BPSC protesters in Patna

Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor, who joined the protesters today, said a decision will be made tomorrow on further protest, if students are left unsatisfied.

Jan Suraaj party chief Prashant Kishor addresses aspirants during a protest over the alleged leak of a BPSC question paper.

Aspirants of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) continue to protest seeking cancellation of the 70th prelims examinations and a re-test at all centres— a demand denied by the Commission so far.

The agitating students on Sunday came together at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.

In order to disperse the protesters, the Bihar police resorted to lathi-charge which led to massive chaos in the area.

‘Government weak paper leak’, ‘Save Bihar’ and others are the banners which were put up as a means for blaming the state government for not being able to conduct the exam in a fair manner.

The BPSC held the 70th prelims examinations on December 13 and on the same day, reports of paper leak came to light and a few centres did not even conduct the exam.

BPSC chairman has denied any paper leak concern and said that the test will be held at a few centres only, and not for all.

Earlier, when students were holding a march to the Commission’s office, the police dispersed them and students alleged that the cops’ ‘lathi-charge’ action injured many.

Today, Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor joined the aspirants to seek justice for the students.

“We are not going for a protest. We want to meet the students. I do not know why the government has made it a question of its prestige,” he said.

“Bihar is the mother of democracy and students have the right to speak their minds... that is why we are with the students,” he added.

“If after speaking to the Secretary, the students or the student organisation of BPSC candidates are not satisfied, then tomorrow morning a decision will be made on further protest… I would request the students not to do anything right now that is not legal... If the decision is not in favour of the students, if any injustice is done to the students, then we will stand with them with full strength… I am with the students…,” said Kishor.

It is to be noted that hundreds of candidates have been protesting at the Gardani Bagh protest site in Patna for the past 12 days demanding cancellation of the said examination.
