Prayagraj is all set to host the Amrit Snan on February 3, coinciding with Basant Panchami, as part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. Over 330 million (33 crore) devotees have already participated in the holy dip, making it the largest religious gathering in the world.
On Saturday, more than 200 international devotees took part in prayers and bhajan kirtans in the city, expressing their appreciation for the spiritual energy and excellent organisation of the event.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s arrangements have drawn widespread praise from pilgrims.
One devotee, who took a holy dip on Basant Panchami, remarked, “The arrangements here are very good.” Another devotee added, “The state government has made excellent arrangements; I took a holy dip on the occasion of Basant Panchami.”
The Amrit Snan, a key event in the Maha Kumbh Mela, will be followed by three more significant bathing dates: the Maghi Purnima on February 12 and Maha Shivaratri on February 26. The Uttar Pradesh government is expecting more than 45 crore devotees to attend the Mela by the time it concludes.
This comes after the tragic stampede on January 29, which resulted in 30 deaths and over 60 injuries.
The incident occurred during the Mauni Amavasya, when millions gathered at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna, for a holy dip.

Authorities have announced financial aid of Rs 25 lakh for the victims’ families, and a judicial inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
“We have been monitoring the entire incident from the CM's, Chief Secretary, and DGP's control rooms throughout the day,” said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, adding that a judicial commission, headed by Justice Harsh Kumar, is investigating the matter.
On February 1, a 118-member delegation, including diplomats and mission heads from 77 countries, participated in the Mela.
CM Adityanath welcomed them, emphasising the significance of the Mela, which is expected to attract more than 45 crore pilgrims by its conclusion.
The Amrit Snan will take place on February 3, during the Basant Panchami festival, which marks the beginning of spring.
The festival is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu deity of learning, music, and the arts. Devotees will gather at the Sangam, where the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati meet.
