Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar even reiterated that if the allegations are proven false, strict action will be taken for trying to defame an institution.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation into allegations against Dharmasthala. He believes a conspiracy to tarnish the institution's image will be exposed soon. He also warned of strict action if the accusations are found to be false.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently probing the claims. The allegations include mass murder, rape, and mass burials. They are said to have occurred in Dharmasthala over the past two decades.

The complainant, a former sanitation worker whose identity has been kept confidential, alleged that between 1995 and 2014, he was forced to handle bodies — including those of women and minors — some of which bore signs of sexual assault. He has submitted a statement before a magistrate.

As part of the investigation, the SIT is digging at several locations. The complainant identified these sites along the Netravathi River. Skeletal remains have been found at two of these sites so far.

Shivakumar, further, told the media: "Not in favour of or against Dharmasthala; things should happen in accordance with the law. The conspiracy, if any, will come forth as the investigation proceeds."

He expects Home Minister G Parameshwara to reveal the truth. Parameshwara is scheduled to speak during an Assembly debate on Monday. Shivakumar noted that the Home Minister will provide details on the alleged conspiracy. He added that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also warned against making false allegations.

Shivakumar even reiterated that if the allegations are proven false, strict action will be taken. He stressed that "law is equal for everyone." He said those who are wrong will be punished. He also cautioned against unnecessarily defaming people or institutions.

Earlier, Parameshwara had made a similar statement in the Assembly. He said legal action could be taken against the complainant if the allegations are found to be baseless.

Bharatiya Janata Party legislators have been critical of the government's handling of the issue. They have called for an interim report from the SIT. They also demanded action against the complainant. The BJP claims this is part of a "toolkit to denigrate Hindu gods and their places of worship." Parameshwara is set to respond to these points on Monday.
