Protesters in Tripura seek ouster of B’deshi armed group PCJSS

The demonstration, organised under the banner of the Amarpur Sub-Division Conscious Citizens’ Forum, culminated in the submission of a memorandum to Chief Minister Manik Saha through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

According to the memorandum, PCJSS (Santu) has established armed camps in multiple locations, including Narayanpur/Mog Para, Lakkhidar Para, Korollyachari and Kamalakha under Gandachara Sub-Division; Midhingechari under Kanchanpur Sub-Division and Sushenpara (Baghechara) under Amarpur Division.

Over 1,000 protestors gathered in Amarpur, Gomati district in Tripura, on Tuesday to demand the removal of the Bangladeshi armed group Parbattyo Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) led by Santu Larma from Tripura.

The demonstration, organised under the banner of the Amarpur Sub-Division Conscious Citizens’ Forum, culminated in the submission of a memorandum to Chief Minister Manik Saha through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The memorandum alleged large-scale organised infiltration from Bangladesh and accused the PCJSS (Santu) of operating armed camps inside Tripura’s border areas.

“The issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh is very serious. While illegal infiltrators regularly enter Tripura, the organised influx is being carried out by the PCJSS (Santu). Their overground leaders and cadres from Bangladesh are settling in Tripura, while their armed cadres have set up camps in the border areas,” the memorandum stated.

Protestors highlighted the recent arrest of 13 PCJSS members in Agartala on June 3, allegedly injured while illegally crossing into India, as evidence of ongoing infiltration. They also accused the group of engaging in drug trafficking, smuggling of Burmese cigarettes, cattle trafficking and arms smuggling, claiming it receives financial and political backing from Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladesh.

The protestors alleged that PCJSS (Santu) cadres impose illegal taxes on Indian citizens visiting border areas and intimidate locals through Indian agents. “Indian citizens cannot carry out any activity in the border areas due to threats and harassment from the PCJSS (Santu),” the memorandum read.

The forum urged the state government to take immediate steps to secure Tripura’s borders, arrest and deport all PCJSS (Santu) members, and dismantle their armed camps.
