A tragic road accident late Sunday night on Siswan Road in Mohali resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a young woman, while one person sustained critical injuries. The victims' bodies have been transported to the mortuary of Mohali Phase-6 Civil Hospital.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the accident occurred when the car, traveling at high speed, lost control after hitting a speed breaker. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times before coming to a stop. At the time of the crash, four individuals were inside the car.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Shubham Jattwal, a PhD scholar in forensic science at Panjab University (PU) residing in the university’s BH-3 hostel; Rubina, a working professional; and Saurabh Pandey, a 2023 graduate from PU’s Human Genome Department, who was affiliated with PGI Chandigarh.
The sole survivor, Manvendra, a forensic science research scholar at PU and a day scholar, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. His statement is expected to provide further insight into the cause of the accident.
Inspector Sunil Kumar, SHO of Majri police station, stated that preliminary investigations suggest the car was speeding towards Chandigarh when the driver lost control upon hitting a speed breaker, leading to the fatal overturning of the vehicle. The wreckage made rescue efforts particularly difficult due to the severe damage sustained by the car.
The deceased were residents of Khuda Lahora and Nayagaon. Manvendra, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, remains under close medical supervision as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
