A woman police constable in Pune has been suspended after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and putting public safety at risk. She has also been accused of consuming alcohol while wearing her police uniform and behaving improperly during duty.
The constable has been identified as Ashwini Phulchand Kekan. The suspension order records the incident as having taken place between October 26 and 27 in the Manjari area of Pune.
According to the order, Kekan allegedly lost control of her car while driving after consuming alcohol. A medical examination conducted later confirmed alcohol consumption.
A case has been registered against her at Manjari police station. Departmental action was initiated on the grounds that the incident had damaged the image of the police force.
During the suspension period, Kekan will not be permitted to take up private employment or conduct any business. She must also remain at the designated headquarters and cannot leave without prior permission.
RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar had shared a video of the incident on social media and sought action against the constable. In the video, Kekan is seen in the driver's seat of the car arguing with people gathered at the spot.
