The Punjab Government has officially declared a public holiday on Tuesday, April 29, to mark the occasion of Lord Parshuram Jayanti. All government offices, educational institutions, and various commercial establishments across Punjab will remain closed on Tuesday.
Though most institutions will remain shut, essential services like hospitals, ambulances, electricity and water supply, and fire brigades will run as usual. Special events, including religious programmes and community feasts (langar), are scheduled to be organised at multiple locations to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, who is revered as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Traditionally, Lord Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. However, this year, the Tritiya Tithi falls on May 10. According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Parshuram is said to have been born during the Pradosh Kaal, a period considered particularly sacred by devotees. He is also regarded as one of the eight Chiranjeevis (immortal beings) believed to continue existing on Earth.
The occasion coincides with Akshaya Tritiya, a highly auspicious day for purchasing gold, conducting religious ceremonies, and solemnising marriages and other important events, as it is associated with prosperity and eternal success.
