The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday resumed hearings in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) case, with proceedings lasting nearly two hours before being adjourned to May 23.
During the session, the Punjab government raised strong objections to the Centre’s failure to produce the necessary records related to its decision to allocate water to Haryana. Punjab’s counsel referred to a previous court order dated May 6, which cited a Centre decision taken on May 2 to release water to Haryana. However, no formal documentation was submitted to the court to support this claim.
Highlighting the sensitivity of the issue, Punjab’s legal team criticised the Centre for its inaction and lack of transparency, arguing that the situation calls for urgent and accountable governance.
The matter is currently under review as part of a petition filed by Punjab, challenging the water allocation decision. The court is scheduled to continue the hearing tomorrow.
The case holds major significance amid the ongoing dispute between Punjab and Haryana over water sharing from the BBMB system.
