Former Speaker of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly and JMM MLA from Nala constituency, Rabindranath Mahato is set to retain his post as the Speaker of the House. A unanimous decision had been taken to pave the way for Mahto to become the Speaker.
On the first day of the Assembly session, Pro-tem Speaker Stephen Marandi administered the oath of membership of the Assembly to all 81 MLAs including Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
The Speaker of the Assembly will be elected on Tuesday, on the second day of the Special Session.
For the post of Speaker of the Assembly, the nomination of Rabindranath Mahato from the ruling party and the opposition was submitted in seven sets to the Assembly Secretary Manik Lal Hembram on Monday.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren signed as the first proposer and JMM MLA Mathura Prasad Mahato as the supporter. In the second set, Congress MLA Radha Krishna Kishore signed as the proposer and former minister Rameshwar Oraon as the supporter.
In the third set, RJD MLA Suresh Paswan signed as the proposer and Naresh Prasad Singh as the supporter. In the fourth set, CPI (ML) MLA Arup Chatterjee was the proposer and Chandradev Mahto was the supporter, in the sixth set, BJP leader Babulal Marandi was the proposer and MLA CP Singh was the supporter.
In the sixth set, JD(U) MLA Saryu Roy and RJD’s Jarnadan Paswan were the proposers and in the seventh, JKLM’s Jairam Kumar Mahto was the proposer and Nirmal Mahto was the supporter.
The proposers and supporters of Rabindranath Mahto have the signatures of JMM, Congress, RJD, BJP, LJP, CPI-ML, AJSU Party and JLKM MLA. This paves the way for the election of Rabindranath Mahto as Speaker unanimously.
The official announcement of the election of Rabindranath Mahto will be made on December 10, the second day of the session.
