Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi reached at Kangra airport in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday to take part in a Congress training session being held in the region. Rahul Gandhi was welcomed at the airport by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and senior party leaders.

Welcoming him, CM Sukhu wrote on X that Rahul Gandhi shares a special bond with Himachal Pradesh and his visit to the “Land of the Gods” was a moment of happiness and pride for the people of the state. Gandhi is scheduled to attend the concluding ceremony of the 10-day training camp organised for Congress workers and party functionaries.

In another post, Sukhu said "This training camp has served as a vital platform for organisational strengthening, dialogue, and meaningful exchange of ideas, through which district presidents gained new perspectives and energy. The dignified presence and address of Rahul Gandhi Ji in this training camp will prove inspirational in empowering the organisation and giving a fresh direction to its commitment towards public concerns.”

Meanwhile, the All India Mahila Congress is expected to raise the issue of greater political representation for women during its interaction with Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier, during a press conference, AICC Secretary and Himachal Pradesh Mahila Congress in-charge Surbhi Verma said the organisation was pushing for concrete measures to ensure one-third reservation for women in legislatures as well as within the party structure. She alleged that the BJP was delaying implementation of the women’s reservation law.

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023 provides for one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. However, opposition parties in the Lok Sabha opposed the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-first Amendment) Bill introduced on April 17, which proposed delimitation based on the 2011 Census to operationalise women’s reservation. The opposition supported women’s reservation but criticised the delimitation process linked to it.
