All construction work on the Ram temple in Ayodhya is expected to finish by April 30, with the project's overall cost estimated at around Rs 1,900 crore, Ram Temple Construction Committee chairman Nripendra Mishra announced on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after a two-day meeting of the committee, Mishra stated that Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Tata Consultancy Services, handling major works at the site, will exit the temple complex by that date upon completion.

Mishra added that instructions have been given to finalise all paperwork and bill payments by April 30.

"L&T and Tata Consultancy have offered a three-year warranty for all the work carried out by them. For maintenance and upkeep, a small team from both organisations will remain deployed inside the temple complex," he said.

He further noted that post-April 30, all agreements with L&T, Tata Consultancy, and the State Construction Corporation will transfer to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

On expenditure, Mishra said the total project cost stands at approximately Rs 1,900 crore, of which around Rs 1,600 crore, including GST, has already been paid.

The meeting assessed construction progress and final timelines for completion and handover of responsibilities.

Project background and progress

  • Start date: Construction formally began on August 5, 2020, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Bhoomi Pujan and laid the foundation stone, following the Supreme Court's 2019 verdict awarding the site to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust (formed February 5, 2020).

  • Key milestones: The temple's ground floor was completed by late 2023; Pran Pratishtha (consecration) occurred on January 22, 2024, opening the ground floor to devotees. Upper floors and ancillary structures advanced through 2024-2025.

  • Completion timeline evolution: Earlier targets included full completion by March–July 2025, with flag-hoisting on November 25, 2025, marking structural finish in some announcements. The latest update extends final handover and exit of contractors to April 30 (presumably 2026), focusing on finishing touches, warranties, and transitions.

  • Current status: Major civil works near end; emphasis now on documentation, payments, maintenance teams, and trust takeover. The temple, built with public donations, has drawn massive crowds since partial opening.
