Ranchi Police have seized counterfeit currency worth nearly ₹2 crore from a bus at New Market Bus Stand under Sukhdev Nagar police station, exposing a major fake note syndicate. Two suspects have been arrested.
The operation was carried out by a team led by Kotwali DSP Prakash Soye on the directions of DIG-cum-SSP Chandan Sinha, following a tip-off that a large consignment of fake notes was being transported to Ranchi from Patna.
Acting swiftly, the police intercepted the bus and discovered the counterfeit notes concealed in a box.
Initial interrogation revealed links to an interstate gang involved in circulating fake currency across multiple states. Investigators believe the consignment was meant to fuel illegal trade and disrupt local markets.
The arrested suspects are being questioned to identify their handlers, supply sources, and distribution network. Police teams have launched raids at multiple locations to trace other members of the racket and possible hideouts.

SSP Chandan Sinha said the seizure marks a significant breakthrough in curbing the flow of counterfeit currency in Jharkhand. “This operation has uncovered a wide network, and more arrests are likely in the coming days,” he added.
Officials said the recovery is one of the biggest in recent years in Jharkhand underlining the scale at which fake notes are being pushed into circulation. Authorities are also coordinating with agencies in Bihar and other states to dismantle the wider network.
