In a shocking and desperate cry for justice, a rape survivor from Haryana attempted to self-immolate outside the Gurugram Police Commissioner’s office on Thursday.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld for safety, poured petrol over herself at the gate of the Commissioner’s office after police allegedly failed to arrest the accused even four months after she lodged an FIR.
According to officials, quick-thinking policemen on duty immediately intervened and prevented her from setting herself on fire. They also managed to calm her down.
The distressing incident was captured on video and has now gone viral on social media. In the video, the survivor’s loud screams can be clearly heard as she protests police inaction.
In a separate video recorded moments before the incident, the woman alleged that she was raped by a man from Panipat.
She had registered an FIR at the Sector 51 police station, but the accused is still roaming freely. She claimed that the accused’s family and their goons have been continuously threatening her and her family to withdraw the case. Visibly broken, she said in the video:
“The accused is still roaming freely… Now death is the only way out. I am going to the CP office to commit suicide.”
