Domino’s Mumbai Outlets Lose Licences Over Food Safety Lapses

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food safety licences of three Domino’s Pizza outlets in Mumbai after inspections found multiple violations during the ongoing festive season.

The affected Domino’s outlets are located in Parel, Marol and Borivali. They were among 19 food establishments facing action, including 17 in Mumbai and two in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The FDA also withheld the licences of Amina Hotel and Instakart Services Pvt. Ltd., citing serious public health risks.

Inspectors found cockroach infestations, food packets damaged by rats, spoiled food and burnt cooking oil at the establishments. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were also being stored together.

Inspection at Lower Parel facility

The FDA issued an immediate suspension order against the food safety licence of Instakart Services Private Limited, whose facility is located in Lower Parel. The action followed an inspection by a Food Safety Officer on October 13, 2026.

The inspection found cockroaches moving across food storage racks and rat droppings near stored food products. A dead rat was also found beneath an empty storage rack. Officials recorded peeling wall plaster, damaged floor tiles and sticky, oily flooring. A 5-kg bag had been torn open, with its contents spilled directly on the floor.

Leaking milk packets and spilled buttermilk or curd had created a sour and foul smell across the premises. The frozen room was found in extremely poor condition, with blackened surfaces and a heavy accumulation of ice on the racks.

The facility management could not produce medical certificates for workers. Employees were also seen handling items without gloves or head caps. The premises did not have sufficient drinking water or effective pest-control arrangements.

Food stock worth Rs 50.19 lakh seized

During enforcement action in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, the FDA seized 24,406 kg of suspected sub-standard, unsafe and mislabelled food stock from the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and Greater Mumbai divisions. The seized material was valued at Rs 50.19 lakh.

Two edible oil repacking units in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—Orgisattva Foods and Jyotirling Foods—also had their licences suspended. Adulterated oil stock valued at more than Rs 39 lakh was confiscated from the units.

In the Konkan and Greater Mumbai divisions, officials seized food products worth Rs 1.17 lakh. The action led to four cases being registered and four arrests.
