Record 22 Punjabis win in Canada elections

Punjabis won five seats in Brampton.

Canadian Prime Minister and Liberal Party leader Mark Carney addressing his supporters after winning the federal election in Ottawa on Tuesday.


A record 22 of the 65 Punjabis have been elected to the House of Commons in the federal elections in Canada. In 2021, 18 Punjabis won, while in 2019, 20 Punjabis were elected.

 

Punjabis won five seats in Brampton

 

Liberal candidate Ruby Sahota won against Conservative Amandeep Judge from Brampton North.


Liberal candidate Maninder Sidhu won against Conservative candidate Bob Dosanjh from Brampton East.


Liberal candidate Amandeep Sohi won against Taran Chahal from Brampton Centre.


Conservative candidate Sukhdeep Kang won against Liberal candidate Sonia Sidhu from Brampton South.


Conservative candidate Amarjeet Gill won against sitting minister Kamal Khera from Brampton West.

Sukh Dhaliwal from Surrey Newton

 

Iqwinder Singh Gaheer from Mississauga Malton

Gurbax Saini from Fleetwood Port Kells

 

Param Bains from Richmond East Steveston

 

Prominent winners from Conservative Party are

 

Jasraj Hallan from Calgary East

 

Dalwinder Gill from Calgary McKnight

 

Amanpreet Gill from Calgary Skyview

 

Arpan Khanna from Oxford

 

Tim Uppal from Edmonton Gateway

 

Parm Gill from Milton East

 

Sukhman Gill from Abbotsford South Langley

 

Jagsharan Singh Mahal from Edmonton Southeast

However, in a major political development, New Democratic Party (NDP) president and two-time sitting MP Jagmeet Singh has lost the elections from Burnaby Central riding, finishing third. He secured less than 19% of the vote, trailing behind Liberal Wade Chang and Conservative James Yan

 

Following his defeat, he also resigned as president of the NDP. Another significant defeat was for sitting health minister and two-time MP Kamal Khera, who lost to Amarjeet Gill in Brampton West riding.
