Several agencies, including NDRF, SDRF, Police, Revenue, Health, Food Supply, and PWD, are working together to clear a recently formed lake in Harsil. The lake was created after heavy rains and debris blocked the flow of the Yamuna River at Syanchatti in Barkot tehsil. The water has now reached nearby residential areas, causing fresh problems for locals.
District Magistrate Prashant Arya visited the site for inspection and assured residents there was no need to panic, as all safety measures were being taken and agencies were working round the clock to clear the blockage. Drone surveillance is also being used to monitor the situation closely and agencies were working tirelessly to open the blockage and restore normal flow as soon as conditions permit.
Rescue and relief efforts continue in Uttarkashi after the recent cloudburst in Dharali and Harsil. Work is being done on a war footing under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
On August 17, the District Magistrate reviewed the damaged parts of Harsil, Dharali, and the Gangotri National Highway. He also inspected landslide-hit stretches of the highway and directed BRO, PWD, and other departments to ensure smooth traffic movement.
Earlier, on August 5, a massive mudslide hit Dharali village in the Kheer Gad area near Harsil. Debris and water rushed through the settlement after a cloudburst, sweeping away several houses and causing flash floods in the high-altitude villages.
