Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hamid Karra, reiterated on Saturday his party’s demand for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, emphasising its significance for both the region and the nation.
Addressing a gathering, Karra highlighted that the Congress has consistently raised the issue of statehood restoration, not only in Jammu but also in other areas such as Rajouri.
He stressed that the demand has been a top priority for the party since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
“The restoration of statehood is not only important for the people of Jammu and Kashmir but is also in the national interest,” Karra stated.
He expressed dismay at the central government’s apparent reluctance to act on this matter, questioning the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment to fulfilling its promises.
“We have repeatedly reminded the Prime Minister and Home Minister about this pressing issue, yet there is no clear action,” he remarked.
Karra affirmed that the Congress party would continue its relentless efforts to secure statehood, describing it as a necessary step for ensuring the well-being and development of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We will not back down on this demand,” he concluded.
He also noted that the Congress remains steadfast in advocating for the full political and constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
