The parents of the victim in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case have met West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, seeking his intervention to ensure justice in the matter.

The parents, in a representation submitted to the Governor, have requested that their grievances be raised with President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

According to the West Bengal Raj Bhavan Media Cell, the parents detailed their concerns during the meeting and sought justice for their daughter.

"On 30.01.2025, the parents of the R.G.Kar Medical College and Hospital victim called on the Governor and submitted a representation. The parents narrated their grievances and pleaded for justice," the Raj Bhavan statement said on X.

In response, Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed his solidarity with the grieving family. He assured them that he would take up their case with the President and the Union Home Minister, acknowledging their emotional distress.

"Justice shall prevail," he said, offering words of comfort to the parents. The Governor also assured the parents that they were not alone in their grief and that humanity stood with them.

Meanwhile, the parents withdrew their petition before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, which had sought a fresh investigation into the case.

The petition was filed as an Intervention Application in a suo motu case registered by the apex court last year following the heinous incident.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar raised concerns over the parallel case filed before the Calcutta High Court and advised Senior Advocate Karuna Nundy to withdraw the petition.

The Court suggested that the parents file a fresh plea, given that a conviction had already been secured against the sole accused, Sanjoy Roy.

On January 20, a Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court had convicted Roy and sentenced him to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of the victim.

However, there has been widespread uproar, particularly among the medical community, calling for the death penalty for Roy in light of the brutal crime.

Some have also raised concerns about the investigation's handling, prompting calls for a reinvestigation of the case.
