Indian authorities have begun formal proceedings to deport Nina Kutina, a Russian national who was recently found living with her two young daughters in a cave near Gokarna in Karnataka. Kutina has claimed that one of her children was born in a cave in Goa and that their father is an Israeli businessman currently residing in India.

Kutina, whose visa reportedly expired in 2017, was located on 9 July during a routine patrol by the local police in the Uttara Kannada district. She was discovered staying in a makeshift shelter in the hills along with her daughters, aged six and four.

Officials from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) have since shifted her to a detention facility in Bengaluru and initiated coordination with the Russian consulate to facilitate her deportation. Completion of required legal and diplomatic formalities is expected to take close to a month.

An FRRO official said that they had traced the children’s father, who is “in the clothing business” and holds a valid business visa. “So, he is the father of the children who were with Nina. He is in the clothing business. We have been able to meet him,” the official said. He is understood to be in his forties and originally from Israel.

Kutina had initially refused to reveal the identity of the children's father, but later disclosed his details to counsellors, citing a long-standing relationship with the Israeli man.

“The FRRO officials spoke with the Israeli businessman and checked if he could sponsor tickets for Nina and her daughters,” The Indian Express reported, quoting sources familiar with the matter.

According to the same report, Indian officials have also reached out to the Israeli national, asking if he would assist in the repatriation process.

Speaking about the matter, earlier, Kutina said, “I did not come to Gokarna for spirituality but because nature gives good health.” She also claimed she had lost her son some years ago.

Her stay in India, spanning several years without a valid visa, is now under official scrutiny. Authorities are examining how she managed to remain in the country undetected for such a long period. Kutina’s case has drawn attention due to its unusual circumstances, with local officials expressing concern for the well-being of her children, who had been living without basic amenities.
