Shariful Islam Shehzad, accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan during a theft attempt, has filed for bail, claiming the case is fabricated.

Shariful Islam Shehzad, accused of attacking actor Saif Ali Khan in January during an attempted robbery at his Bandra residence, has moved the Mumbai Sessions Court seeking bail.

Shehzad, through his counsel Ajay Gawali, contends that the charges against him are baseless and the case is a fabrication.

In his bail application, Shehzad has claimed that the First Information Report (FIR) was improperly registered.

He further states that he has fully cooperated with investigators and that all relevant evidence is already in police custody, making tampering impossible.

At present, the matter is before the Bandra Magistrate Court, though it is expected to be transferred to the Sessions Court once the police file the chargesheet. As of now, the Bandra Police have yet to submit their findings.

Shehzad was arrested for allegedly breaking into Khan’s home on 16 January with the intention of committing theft.

The intrusion reportedly turned violent, with the accused attacking the actor, leaving him with severe injuries to the thoracic spine and other parts of his body.

Khan was immediately admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent treatment for five days before being discharged on 21 January.

Mumbai Police, in their February briefing, asserted that there was substantial evidence against Shehzad. Officials also confirmed that the accused had entered India from Bangladesh and had stayed in multiple locations in Kolkata before travelling to Mumbai.

Amid speculation regarding the evidence, Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya had dismissed claims that the accused’s fingerprints did not match.

“Whenever an accusation is made, multiple pieces of evidence are collected against it. We have found much oral, physical, and technical evidence against the accused… We have caught the right person,” he stated.

With the case now in court, legal proceedings will determine whether the accused is granted bail or remains in custody as the investigation progresses.
