Schools across Jammu division will stay closed till Tuesday due to heavy rains, the administration announced on Monday. The decision comes after the weather department issued a warning of heavy rainfall in 10 districts. Continuous downpours have already triggered flash floods and landslides, damaging houses and roads. Fortunately, no casualties were reported on Monday.
In the past five days, however, three cloudbursts in Kishtwar’s Chishoti village and in Kathua’s Jodh Ghati and Janglote areas claimed 68 lives and left 122 injured.
The Director of School Education said “In view of the inclement and bad weather conditions, it is hereby ordered that all government as well as private Schools of the Jammu division shall continue to remain closed till tomorrow.”
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms between August 17 and 19. Cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides have been predicted in Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and parts of Kashmir.
